Introduction

Co-production of Curricula

Experiences from working with Nominal Group Reviews

In this report we give an outline of how the EISEN group worked to identify key competencies and capabilities within the field of implementation aiming to develop curriculum on master and PhD level.

Tecnology enabling learning approach

How the course was structured in Canvas

The video presents how the Ph.D. course was structured in Canvas (the LMS, Learning Management System). Course evaluations show that students and teachers found the structure helpful as it made it easy to navigate in the course.

How interactive personal introductions in Canvas can be used to contribute to a social environment

The video demonstrates how a discussion forum in Canvas can be used for interactive personal introductions to create a social environment in an online Ph.D. course.

In this report we provide an overview of the main activities and main deliverances developing the TEL- concept; a purposeful and innovative technology enabled approach to learning.

Msc Course

The Master course was kicked successfully off Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th January 2021 with 13 students from three continents enrolled. The participants represent a diversity of professional backgrounds and countries of origin, and present positions within the health and social sector. Given that we had participants joining from the UK, Sweden, Norway, Ghana, India, Philippines and Nepal, we were relieved to find that the online connections worked mostly well.

The TEL methods (PADLET, collaboration in core groups combined with focused lectures and physical activities) were successfully introduced and organised by Malin Tistad and Anna Bergstrøm, and they were much appreciated by the participants.

The course has a focus on implementation and facilitation in Healthcare and Social Services. The course aims to increase participant’s personal and scientific facilitation capabilities regarding implementation research. The course content includes the following topics: introduction to implementation science, stakeholder involvement in the process of facilitation, macro, meso and micro context prerequisites, and evaluation of implementation work.

All teachers in the course are active researchers in the field of implementation and collaborative research. Successful completion of the course earns 7.5 ECTS.

PhD Course

The Phd course started Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd February 2021 with 23 participants – all living or studying in Europe. The students are well qualified and they represent an interesting diversity of professional backgrounds and contexts, as well as implementation research experience.

As with the Master course, everything went well. No technical complications, rather appraisal from students of how well everything was planned and the TEL methods used, particularly the mix between focused lectures and several opportunities to learn with and from colleagues in breakout rooms.

The PhD student course has a unique focus on leadership for implementation research in Healthcare and Social Services. The course will increase participant’s personal and scientific leadership capabilities regarding implementation research. The course content includes the following topics: implementation leadership, macro, meso and micro context prerequisites, implementation strategies, and evaluation. Successful completion of the course earns 5 ECTS.

Implementation Research Leadership Development Needs Assessment

Following the focus on developing implementation research leadership skills, the students were invited to assessed their development needs, and prioritise three areas they particularly would like to work on during their PhD project. The students appreciated the tool, and several students said they would use the insight when discussing with their supervisors and/or future employers.

Workstream

In this report we give a critical reflection of how the EISEN group evaluated the co-design of our curriculum within the field of implementation. Also, the report gives an overview of the workstream cut across the entire EISEN project with the aim of developing the Implementation Science curriculum framework at master and PhD level.
